Looking for some advice on courses to play in the Fife area – my lad has entered the St Andrews Boys but it’s balloted so he’s not forced to get in. We’ve booked accommodation anyway in St Andrews for 4 days, so if he doesn’t get in, then we’ll be playing some golf up there anyway.

Already got an offer to play Aberdour from a friend so potentially need 2 or 3 other courses we can play.

Fire away with your recommendations please.

Excellent courses on the Fife coast, from Lundin Links, Elie, Crail, then you have the Eden, Jubilee, the new course and the castle course all in St Andrews Drumoigabout 15 minutes from St Andrews

So, we ended up playing King Robert The Bruce at Turnberry on the way up, Jamie played at Leven in the Junior Open on the Monday, nice 8th placed finish in a very strong field of local and international golfers, then stopped at Anstruther on the way back to St Andrews for a quick nine.
Tuesday we were hosted at Aberdour – some really good holes especially down by the sea, and the course was in fantastic condition – then on Wednesday we opted to play The Kittocks course at Fairmont – free for Jamie and £180 for myself – it was absolutely amazing. I appreciate most people are drawn to the St Andrews Links courses but the Fairmont set up is top notch – we’ll definitely go back there.

What did you think of Anstruther, I played it in June, it was windy which made it very tough especially the par 3 5th and 6th.

    Only ones I’ve played are:

Aderdour – loved this. Great views and a parkland.

Eden Course – about as close to the Old Course as you can get whilst spending <£100. Decent course in its own right.

Crail Balcomie – might be a bit expensive but a great old course with lovely views and very welcoming.

Anstruther – quirky but fun 9-holer.

    Would recommend all.
